Weekend Recap: Bearcats Capture PBLO Championship

This past weekend in Oshawa, the 15U Major Bearcats came out on top of a Bearcat vs. Bearcat final to capture the 2026 15U PBLO Championship.

The team achieved a perfect 5-0 record while scoring double digit runs in each of their games, including a 15-run outburst against the Pickering Prospects. In total, the team scoring a whopping 60 runs, while giving up 27 over the course of the tournament. Offensively, the team was lead by Ethan Cartier, who swung to the tune of an impressive .846/.842/1.919 slash line. On the pitching front, Joel Zammit threw a strong 7.2 innings over two starts, culminating to a 2.74 ERA. This playoff championship caps off an impressive season that saw the team win the regular season with a 19-5 record.

On other fronts, the Bearcats battled hard across the remaining divisions. The 14U squad had a tough weekend, being eliminated at the conclusion of pool play. However, an outstanding pitching performance came in their second game as Xander Mochrie and Nolan Buchholtz, with battery mate Mack Smith, pitched a combined no-hitter.

As detailed above, 15U Minor met 15U Major in the Sunday final in Oshawa. The team battled hard the entire weekend, with narrow losses to both the Ontario Yankees and the 15U Major squad in pool play. The second place finish caps off a strong season for the team, which saw them finish second in the regular season with a final record of 16-11.

In London, the 16U squad narrowly missed the Sunday final. The team played to a perfect 3-0 pool play record, but ultimately fell in the semi-finals with a 9-6 loss to the Oshawa Legionaires. The squad was lead by a strong offense that slashed .398/.492/.992 over the four games.

In Tecumseh, Bearcats 17U squad battled back from an initial Friday night loss to reach the Sunday semi-final. Ultimately, the team fell 14-7 to the London Badgers. The weekend was highlighted by back-to-back walk off wins against the Ontario Yankees, the first courtesy of Colby Urysty, and the second coming via a single off the bat of Rohan Hoffman.

Also in Tecumseh, Bearcats 18U saw themselves playing very tight baseball, with three of their four games being decided by two runs. The squad saw their weekend come to an end in the Sunday semi-final, falling to the Oshawa Legionaires in a 6-4 final.

Overall, Bearcat teams showed out this past weekend across all divisions, with five of six teams reaching the semi-finals or further. As the season has officially come to a close, look out for our season recap article which will highlight season achievements of each respective team!
