One of the Region’s Most Accomplished Baseball Players Returns to Help Develop the Next Generation of Athletes
CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO — The Midwestern Ontario Bearcats Baseball Club is proud to announce the addition of professional pitcher Evan Elliott to its player development staff.
A former Canadian Junior National Team member, NCAA Division I athlete, Texas Rangers draft selection, and professional pitcher who reached triple-digit velocity, Elliott will join the Bearcats as a Pitching Instructor and Development Coach.
The addition marks another significant step in the organization’s commitment to providing elite-level development opportunities for athletes throughout Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario.
“Evan’s resume speaks for itself, but what excites us most is who he is as a teacher and mentor,” said Mark Couch, President of the Midwestern Ontario Bearcats Baseball Club.
“Our mission has always been to provide local athletes with access to the same caliber of coaching found in major baseball markets. Adding someone who has competed at the highest levels of amateur and professional baseball is a tremendous opportunity for our players and families.”
Elliott’s baseball journey has taken him from Canada’s highest levels of amateur baseball to some of the most competitive environments in North America.
His accomplishments include:
- Canadian Junior National Team Alumni
- NCAA Division I Baseball (Virginia Commonwealth University)
- Drafted by the Texas Rangers
- Professional baseball experience within the Texas Rangers organization
- Experience within the Toronto Blue Jays system
- Recorded a peak velocity of 100 MPH
- Current pitcher with the Kitchener Panthers of the Canadian Baseball League
Now, Elliott is bringing that experience directly to the next generation of players.
“I’ve been fortunate to learn from incredible coaches throughout my career,” said Evan Elliott.
“I’m excited to help young athletes understand what it takes to succeed at higher levels of baseball. Development isn’t just about throwing harder. It’s about learning how to train, compete, prepare, and build habits that create long-term success.”
Elliott will work directly with Bearcats athletes on pitching development, arm care, velocity training, mechanics, mental preparation, game planning, and overall athlete development.
His arrival further strengthens a coaching staff that continues to grow as the organization expands its development programs at The Yard Athletic Centre.
According to Luke Baker, Director of Player Development and Mental Performance Coach, Elliott’s impact extends well beyond his accomplishments on the field.
“Players naturally pay attention when someone has lived the path they dream of pursuing,” said Baker.
“Evan has experienced Team Canada, Division I baseball, professional baseball, and elite competition. The lessons he learned throughout that journey are invaluable. Our athletes now have direct access to that experience every time they step into the facility.”
The announcement comes during a period of significant growth for the Bearcats organization, which continues to expand its player development programming, coaching resources, facility offerings, and pathways for athletes seeking opportunities at the collegiate and professional levels.
For local baseball families, Elliott’s addition represents something increasingly rare: access to professional-level instruction without leaving the region.
“For years, families have felt they needed to travel to Toronto or cross the border to access elite development resources,” said Couch.
“Our goal is to continue building something special right here in Waterloo Region. Bringing Evan on board is another major step toward that vision.”
With Elliott now on staff, the Bearcats are giving local athletes a clear, in-region path to elite-level coaching — and a growing reason to watch this program closely.
